Maryland’s top court allows Democratic-backed congressional redistricting measure on November ballot

The Maryland Supreme Court says a congressional redistricting amendment backed by Democrats can appear on the November ballot. The ruling Thursday reverses the decisions of two lower courts that had blocked the measure from going to voters. If approved by voters, the amendment could make it easier for Democratic lawmakers to redraw U.S. House districts to their advantage ahead of the 2028 elections. Democrats already hold seven of the state’s eight U.S. House districts. They hope that redistricting could help them win all eight seats and offset Republican redistricting efforts elsewhere that have been backed by President Donald Trump.
