Two Massachusetts legislators want a "9 to 5 Day" to honor legendary country singer Dolly Parton.
"Dolly Parton deserves a day in Massachusetts," state Sen. Julian Cyr posted to social media.
Cyr and state Rep. Sam Montano filed the bill to honor Parton, the Queen of Country, on Sept. 25, or 9-25.
"Just a girl from Appalachia, Dolly’s belief in herself led to stratospheric success in music and business.," the post said. "But there’s no doubt that her greatest legacy will be her generosity, humor, and unwavering support of women, workers, LGBTQ+ people, and children.
Parton died Aug. 25 at age 80.
On the proposed day of recognition, Cyr suggested Massachusetts residents "celebrate Dolly how she would have wanted: with plenty of laughs, a bit of sparkle, and a lot of kindness. After all, the only thing bigger than Dolly’s hair was her heart."
