WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - Kansans say they’re waiting on their food assistance benefits and are at risk of not having enough food in their home.
The Kansas Department of Children and Families said it warned state lawmakers this would happen with new requirements, including more steps to eligibility.
“A lot of the people that are coming in are telling us they’ve had reductions in their SNAP benefits, they’re no longer receiving benefits, or there are delays in the processing,” Penner said.
“We’ve had to adjust the number of points that we’re giving to households. We’ve had to lower that, and we’ve had to increase the prices of some of the items to accommodate and to cope with the increase.”
It encourages clients to review the required verification documents to make sure they have the necessary information when submitting their application, recertification, or required documents at their interview on their website.
