                             A RESOLUTION
1 Designating the month of June 2026 as "Gun Violence Awareness
2    Month" in Pennsylvania.
3WHEREAS, Gun violence is a national, State and local problem
4 affecting Americans in cities, suburbs and rural communities;
5 and
6WHEREAS, Nearly 130 people are killed and more than 200
7 people are injured with firearms each day in the United States;
8 and
9WHEREAS, An average of 60 children and teens are shot and
10 killed or injured each day in the United States; and
11WHEREAS, In 2024, firearms were used in 76% of all homicides
12 in the United States and 57% of all suicides; and
13WHEREAS, Among American adults, 21% have been personally
14 threatened with a firearm, 19% report that a family member was
15 killed by firearm, 17% have personally witnessed someone being
16 shot with a firearm and 4% have been injured with a firearm; and
17WHEREAS, Gun violence is the leading cause of death for
1 children under 18 years of age; and
2    WHEREAS, In this Commonwealth, an individual is killed with a
3 firearm every five hours; and
4    WHEREAS, A law enforcement officer in this Commonwealth is
5 fatally shot every six months; and
6    WHEREAS, This year, "National Gun Violence Awareness Month"
7 is being observed in June; and
8    WHEREAS, "Gun Violence Awareness Month" is a nationwide and
9 Statewide occasion to recognize the impact of gun violence;
10 therefore be it
11    RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
12 month of June 2026 as "Gun Violence Awareness Month" in
13 Pennsylvania; and be it further
14    RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives acknowledge this
15 public safety and public health issue; and be it further
16    RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives memorialize the
17 lives lost to gun violence in this Commonwealth.
