WILLIAMS AND CIRESI, JUNE 12, 2026REFERRED TO COMMITTEE ON HEALTH, JUNE 15, 2026A RESOLUTION1 Designating the month of June 2026 as "Gun Violence Awareness2 Month" in Pennsylvania.3WHEREAS, Gun violence is a national, State and local problem4 affecting Americans in cities, suburbs and rural communities;5 and6WHEREAS, Nearly 130 people are killed and more than 2007 people are injured with firearms each day in the United States;8 and9WHEREAS, An average of 60 children and teens are shot and10 killed or injured each day in the United States; and11WHEREAS, In 2024, firearms were used in 76% of all homicides12 in the United States and 57% of all suicides; and13WHEREAS, Among American adults, 21% have been personally14 threatened with a firearm, 19% report that a family member was15 killed by firearm, 17% have personally witnessed someone being16 shot with a firearm and 4% have been injured with a firearm; and17WHEREAS, Gun violence is the leading cause of death for1 children under 18 years of age; and2 WHEREAS, In this Commonwealth, an individual is killed with a3 firearm every five hours; and4 WHEREAS, A law enforcement officer in this Commonwealth is5 fatally shot every six months; and6 WHEREAS, This year, "National Gun Violence Awareness Month"7 is being observed in June; and8 WHEREAS, "Gun Violence Awareness Month" is a nationwide and9 Statewide occasion to recognize the impact of gun violence;10 therefore be it11 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the12 month of June 2026 as "Gun Violence Awareness Month" in13 Pennsylvania; and be it further14 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives acknowledge this15 public safety and public health issue; and be it further16 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives memorialize the17 lives lost to gun violence in this Commonwealth.20260HR0567PN3604 - 2 -
