MACKENZIE, VENKAT, JAMES,HOHENSTEIN, BRENNAN, PICKETT, MERSKI, HAMM, KUZMA, VITALI,GUZMAN, NEILSON, ANDERSON, SOLOMON, RIVERA, GALLAGHER,CONKLIN, PASHINSKI, O'MARA, SANCHEZ, STEELE, DEASY, CIRESIAND MENTZER, JUNE 11, 2026REFERRED TO COMMITTEE ON VETERANS AFFAIRS AND EMERGENCYPREPAREDNESS, JUNE 12, 2026A RESOLUTION1 Designating September 27, 2026, as "Gold Star Mother's and2 Family's Day" in Pennsylvania.3WHEREAS, When a military service member dies in the line of4 duty, the family receives The Gold Star to commemorate the5 military member's service and life, while recognizing the impact6 of loss on the family; and7WHEREAS, During World War I, families of service members8 displayed the Service Flag, which featured a blue star for each9 immediate family member serving in the military; and10WHEREAS, When a service member tragically died during combat,11 the blue star was replaced with a gold star; and12WHEREAS, During World War I, Grace Darling Seibold lost her13 son, George Vaughn Seibold, who died while serving in France;14 and15WHEREAS, Grace Darling Seibold founded American Gold Star16 Mothers, Inc., to provide comfort and support to mothers as they1 processed their grief; and2WHEREAS, President Woodrow Wilson used the term "Gold Star3 Mother" following World War I, representing the importance and4 honor of those who served and the lives that were sacrificed;5 and6WHEREAS, In 1936, Congress designated the last Sunday of7 September as "Gold Star Mother's Day" in order to honor grieving8 mothers; and9WHEREAS, In 2011, President Barack Obama amended the title of10 "Gold Star Mother's Day" to "Gold Star Mother's and Family's11 Day," which is recognized on the last Sunday in September; and12WHEREAS, "Gold Star Mother's and Family's Day" signifies the13 impact of the loss of a service member on Gold Star family14 members, including parents, siblings and children; therefore be15 it16RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate17 September 27, 2026, as "Gold Star Mother's and Family's Day" in18 Pennsylvania.20260HR0566PN3597 - 2 -
