To direct the Secretary of Health and Human Services to conduct an assessment of food products imported into the United States from foreign facilities, and for other purposes.
1.
Short title
This Act may be cited as the   Protecting America’s Food Supply Act of 2026  .
2.
Assessment of food products imported into the United States from foreign facilities
(a)
In general
The Secretary of Health and Human Services shall conduct an assessment of food products imported into the United States from foreign facilities for the purpose of evaluating—
(1)
the level of risk to public health associated with such food products, including a breakdown by the country of origin;
(2)
the history of health safety violations and recalls associated with such products;
(3)
the volume of such products entering the United States; and
(4)
the level of coordination between United States and foreign regulators in conducting inspections of such products.
(b)
Publication of information
(1)
In general
Not later than 1 year after the date of enactment of this Act, the Secretary shall publish on a publicly accessible website of the Department of Health and Human Services information relating to the assessment to be conducted under subsection (a), including—
(A)
a summary of the findings of the Secretary based on the assessment;
(B)
an identification of annual targets for the number of inspections of foreign food facilities to conducted by the Food and Drug Administration;
(C)
an identification of the actual number of such inspections that were conducted;
(D)
a description of high-level trends associated with such inspections, including a breakdown by commodity and country of origin; and
(E)
an assessment of whether the risk-based inspections of foreign food facilities conducted by the Food and Drug Administration are in alignment with the requirements of the FDA Food Safety Modernization Act ( Public Law 111–353 ), including the amendments made by that Act.
(2)
Updates
The Secretary shall update the information to be published under paragraph (1) on an ongoing basis.
