1		HOUSE RESOLUTION
2		    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3		Representatives wish to congratulate the Illinois Nature
4		Preserves Commission and Northern Illinois University on the
5		occasion of the 60th anniversary of the dedication of Pine
6		Rock Nature Preserve; and
7		    WHEREAS, The Illinois Natural Areas Preservation Act
8		created a system for preserving and protecting areas of the
9		State as a part of the heritage of the people of Illinois; and
10		    WHEREAS, Illinois Nature Preserves are of value for
11		scientific research, for teaching, as reservoirs of natural
12		materials with potential uses yet to be discovered, as
13		habitats for rare and vanishing species, as places of historic
14		and natural interest and scenic beauty, and as living museums
15		of the native landscape wherein one may envision and
16		experience primeval conditions in a wilderness-like
17		environment; and
18		    WHEREAS, Illinois Nature Preserves contribute generally to
19		the public health, the welfare, and the environmental quality
20		of the State; and
21		    WHEREAS, Pine Rock Nature Preserve, located in Ogle

1		County, was officially established in 1966 to protect and
2		conserve its dry upland black oak forest and savanna, mesic
3		and wet-mesic prairie, and the St. Peter sandstone geological
4		formation; and
5		    WHEREAS, Pine Rock Nature Preserve provides critical
6		habitat for a diverse array of plant and animal species,
7		including big bluestem grass and various sedges; and
8		    WHEREAS, Pine Rock Nature Preserve offers opportunities
9		for hiking, nature observation, birdwatching, and
10		environmental education, allowing residents and visitors to
11		experience the preserve's diverse natural landscapes of
12		bluff-top forest, savanna, and open prairie; and
13		    WHEREAS, The stewardship of Pine Rock Nature Preserve has
14		been supported by dedicated local partners, community members,
15		and conservation advocates, with additional support from
16		organizations such as the Illinois Nature Preserves Commission
17		and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources; and
18		    WHEREAS, Over the past 60 years, Pine Rock Nature Preserve
19		has contributed to the protection of Illinois' natural
20		heritage and serves as a valuable natural resource for the
21		residents of Ogle County; therefore, be it

1		    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
2		HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
3		we congratulate the Illinois Nature Preserves Commission and
4		Northern Illinois University on the 60th anniversary of the
5		dedication of Pine Rock Nature Preserve and commend the
6		organizations' ongoing commitment to conservation, education,
7		and stewardship; and be it further
8		    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
9		presented to the Illinois Nature Preserves Commission and
10		Northern Illinois University as a symbol of our respect and
11		esteem.
