To amend the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant Land Withdrawal Act to ensure that economic assistance payments under that Act continue until the closure of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant, and for other purposes.
1.
Short title
This Act may be cited as the WIPP Economic Assistance Assurance Act of 2026 .
2.
Economic assistance and miscellaneous payments
Section 15(a) of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant Land Withdrawal Act ( Public Law 102–579 ; 106 Stat. 4791; 110 Stat. 2854) is amended—
(1)
in the subsection heading, by striking
14-year authorization and inserting
In general ; and
(2)
in the first sentence—
(A)
by striking each of the 14 fiscal years beginning with ; and
(B)
by inserting and each fiscal year thereafter through the fiscal year during which transuranic waste shipments to or from WIPP have been terminated before the period at the end.
