MACKENZIE, MARCELL, KUTZ, KAUFFMAN, VENKAT,VITALI, LEADBETER, GALLAGHER, COOPER, MENTZER, DOUGHERTY,GILLEN, CIRESI AND ROWE, MARCH 9, 2026REFERRED TO COMMITTEE ON JUDICIARY, MARCH 10, 2026A RESOLUTION1 Recognizing the week of May 10 through 16, 2026, as "National2 Police Week" and recognizing May 15, 2026, as "Peace Officers3 Memorial Day" in Pennsylvania.4 WHEREAS, Across the United States, the week of May 10 through5 16, 2026, is being recognized as "National Police Week"; and6 WHEREAS, On October 1, 1962, the Congress of the United7 States approved a joint resolution authorizing the President to8 designate May 15 of each year as "Peace Officers Memorial Day"9 and the calendar week in which that date occurs as "Police10 Week"; and11 WHEREAS, By proclamation dated May 4, 1963, President John F.12 Kennedy designated May 15, 1963, and each succeeding May 15 as13 "Peace Officers Memorial Day" and the week of May 12 through May14 18, 1963, and each succeeding calendar week during which May 1515 occurs as "Police Week"; and16 WHEREAS, The first annual National Peace Officers' Memorial17 Service was held on May 15, 1982; and1 WHEREAS, The House of Representatives joins in remembering2 the service and sacrifice of those police officers throughout3 our nation who have died in the line of duty; and4 WHEREAS, The House of Representatives honors the memory of5 the hundreds of police officers who have given their lives in6 the line of duty in this Commonwealth; therefore be it7 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the8 week of May 10 through 16, 2026, as "National Police Week" and9 recognize May 15, 2026, as "Peace Officers Memorial Day" in10 Pennsylvania.20260HR0427PN2977 - 2 -
