1A HOUSE RESOLUTION honoring the Floyd Central
2    High School Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps rifle
3    team.
4      Whereas, The Floyd Central High School Navy Junior
5    Reserve Officers Training Corps (NJROTC) rifle team won the
6    NJROTC Precision Rifle National Championship for the second
7    consecutive year;
8Whereas, The Floyd Central High School NJROTC rifle
9    team specializes in marksmanship and competes in shooting
10    competitions. Its members shoot with air rifles in three
11    positions: prone, kneeling, and standing, allowing them to
12    learn precision and accuracy while following strict safety
13    protocols;
14      Whereas, The Civilian Marksmanship Program, in

1    cooperation with the Missouri Marksmanship Education
2    Center, hosted the NJROTC National Championships at its new
3    state-of-the-art training facility in Columbia, Missouri, from
4    February 12 to February 14;
5Whereas, Fifty-one sporter teams and twenty precision teams
6    gathered from across the country to compete for national
7    honors. Representing 22 states — and also a United States
8    Department of Defense school from Japan — the championship
9    field showcased the increasing strength and reach of scholastic
10    marksmanship;
11Whereas, Competition was fierce from the first relay to the
12    final shot, but the Hoosier athletes from Floyd Central High
13    School rose to the occasion in commanding fashion;
14Whereas, Cadets Megan Fondy, Logan Hall, Ysabelle
15    Martinez, Lacy Schilmiller, and Emma Velten make up the rifle
16    team that won the team competition with a score of 4,709,
17    which was 104 points higher than the second-place team;
18Whereas, Lacy Schilmiller finished first in the nation in the
19    individual competition, Ysabelle Martinez finished second, and
20    Logan Hall finished sixth with scores of 464.5, 464.1, and
21    418.4, respectively;
22Whereas, Master Gunnery Sergeant Lyn Akermon is the
23    NJROTC instructor for Floyd Central High School and trains
24    the members of the rifle team to be excellent marksmen;
25Whereas, Competing on the rifle team requires cadets to be
26    extremely focused, patient, and disciplined, and they must excel
27    academically to participate; and
28Whereas, Indiana shooting sports continue to demonstrate
29    not only competitive excellence but also the depth of talent
30    being developed within its scholastic programs, and the Floyd
31    Central High School NJROTC rifle team is a prime example:
32    Therefore,
33Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the
34General Assembly of the State of Indiana:

1SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives
2    honors the Floyd Central High School NJROTC rifle team for
3    winning the NJROTC Precision Rifle National Championship
4    for the second consecutive year.
5SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of
6    Representatives shall transmit copies of this resolution to State
7    Representative Edward D. Clere for distribution.
