Enrolled, An Act,
HONORING THARPTOWN BAPTIST CHURCH FOR ITS MANY YEARS
OF FAITHFUL SERVICE TO THE THARPTOWN COMMUNITY AND FRANKLIN
COUNTY, ALABAMA.
WHEREAS, Tharptown Baptist Church traces its historic
roots to when the first congregation was organized at Tharp
Springs Baptist Church of Christ; and
WHEREAS, through perseverance and faith, the church
was reorganized in 1886 and has continued to grow and
flourish, becoming a steadfast pillar of Christian witness
and community life in the Tharptown area; and
WHEREAS, from its early days meeting in a humble log
cabin that served as both church and schoolhouse, to the
construction of subsequent buildings in 1886, 1939, 1952,
and the present sanctuary in 1988, Tharptown Baptist Church
has faithfully adapted and expanded to meet the spiritual
and practical needs of its congregation; and
WHEREAS, throughout its history, the church has been
committed not only to worship, but also to education,
fellowship, and service, hosting Sunday School, Training
Union, Girls' Auxiliary, Royal Ambassadors, the Women's
Missionary Union, and numerous other ministries that have
nurtured generations of families in faith and discipleship;
and
WHEREAS, the church has served as a gathering place

for the community, standing across from the Tharptown
Cemetery, and has been deeply woven into the fabric of local
life, providing spiritual leadership, guidance, and support
through times of hardship, including the years following the
Civil War and beyond; and
WHEREAS, Tharptown Baptist Church has been blessed
with faithful pastors, deacons, teachers, and lay leaders
who have labored diligently for the advancement of the
Gospel and the strengthening of Christian fellowship; and
WHEREAS, for well over a century, the church has
maintained its commitment to proclaiming the message of
Jesus Christ, supporting missions, fostering unity among
believers, and serving as a beacon of hope and faith in
Franklin County; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH
HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That Tharptown Baptist Church is
hereby honored and commended for its many years of dedicated
service to the Tharptown Community and surrounding areas.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That sincere appreciation is
extended to the pastors, members, and leaders, past and
present, whose devotion and sacrifice have sustained the
church's ministry and strengthened the spiritual life of the
community.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be
presented as a lasting tribute of gratitude and recognition
for Tharptown Baptist Church's enduring legacy of faith,
service, and commitment to God and neighbor.
