     MR. PRESIDENT:
     I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:
1    A SENATE RESOLUTION urging the Indiana General
2 Assembly to study training requirements for school employees
3 concerning seizures.
4     Whereas, Seizures, including those caused by the disease
5 epilepsy, are a common neurological condition affecting
6 roughly 1 in 100 children, making it critical for school staff to
7 recognize seizures, provide first aid, and ensure student safety;
8      Whereas, Trained school staff can recognize various types
9 of seizures (not just convulsions), administer rescue
10 medications, and know exactly when to call 911, which can be
11 lifesaving;
12     Whereas, Training ensures staff can follow individualized,
13 doctor-approved plans that outline a student's specific seizure
14 triggers, typical seizure appearance, and necessary emergency
15 procedures;
16     Whereas, Educating staff helps eliminate myths about
17 epilepsy (e.g., that a person can swallow their tongue) and
18 fosters a more understanding, inclusive environment for
19 students with epilepsy;

1    Whereas, Studies show that medical training for staff
2 boosts their confidence in managing emergencies, reducing
3 panic and allowing for swift, effective action;
4     Whereas, In many areas, providing a safe environment for
5 students with chronic conditions is considered both a legal
6 requirement and a moral obligation; and
7     Whereas, Proper training enables personnel to follow
8 seizure action plans, administer rescue medications, reduce
9 stigma, and create a supportive, inclusive, and safe
10 environment for students to learn: Therefore,
11Be it resolved by the Senate of the
12General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
13      SECTION 1. That the Indiana State Senate is urged to study
14 training requirements for school employees concerning
15 seizures.

17     SECTION 2. That the Secretary of the Senate is directed to
18 transmit a copy of this Resolution to Senator David Niezgodski.
