11 MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE BOARD OF REGENTS OF THE
12 UNIVERSITY OF NEW MEXICO FOR THE BUREAU OF BUSINESS AND
13 ECONOMIC RESEARCH TO CONDUCT A STUDY TO DETERMINE THE GENERAL
14 FEASIBILITY OF CREATING A PUBLICLY OWNED ELECTRIC UTILITY.

16 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

17 SECTION 1. APPROPRIATION.--One hundred fifty thousand
underscored material = new
18 dollars ($150,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the
19 board of regents of the university of New Mexico for
20 expenditure in fiscal year 2027 for the bureau of business and
21 economic research to study the general feasibility of state
22 acquisition and operation of an electric utility for the
23 purpose of creating a publicly owned electric utility. Any
24 unexpended balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2027
25 shall revert to the general fund.
