13 PROVIDE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR PUBLIC SCHOOL TEACHERS AND
14 PUBLIC COMMUNITY COLLEGE FACULTY; MAKING AN APPROPRIATION.

16 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

17 SECTION 1. [NEW MATERIAL] CAREER TECHNICAL EXTERNSHIP

18 PROGRAM--CREATED.--The "career technical externship program" is
19 created as a professional development program in the workforce
20 solutions department. The program shall pair career technical
21 teachers in public schools and career technical faculty at
22 public community colleges with various industry representatives
23 of high-skill, in-demand and emerging professions and
24 occupations to enhance teachers' technical skills and their
25 understanding of changing standards, procedures and workforce

1 needs in traditional or rapidly advancing career technical
2 fields. The workforce solutions department shall collaborate
3 with the public education department and career technical
4 faculty at public community colleges to design the externship
5 program and the process for applying for an externship,
6 including qualifications, review and selection of extern
7 candidates.
8 SECTION 2. APPROPRIATION.--Two hundred fifty thousand
9 dollars ($250,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the
10 workforce solutions department for expenditure in fiscal year
11 2027 to implement and administer the career technical
12 externship program. Any unexpended balance remaining at the
13 end of fiscal year 2027 shall revert to the general fund.
