To require verification of employment authorization through the E-Verify Program as a condition of issuance or renewal of a commercial driver’s license.
1.
Short title
This Act may be cited as the   Verification of Employment and Residency Integrity For Commercial Driver’s Licenses Act   or the   VERIFY CDL Act  .
2.
E-Verify requirement for commercial driver’s license issuance and renewal
Section 31305(b)(2) of title 49, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end the following:
(3)
A State may issue or renew any commercial driver’s license only if the individual’s authorization to be employed in the United States has been verified through the E-Verify Program (as defined in section 403(a) of the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 ( 8 U.S.C. 1324a  note)) at the time of application for issuance or renewal of such license.
