1 AN ACT designating the first Tuesday in May as precinct committee
2   person awareness day.

4 Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Kansas:
5     Section 1. (a) The legislature finds that:
6     (1) The role of the precinct committee person is pivotal in organizing
7 local political efforts, engaging with community members and enhancing
8 voter participation, thus serving as the backbone of grassroots political
9 activity;
10     (2) precinct committee persons act as the essential link between
11 political parties and the public, which facilitates for an informed and active
12 voter bases, thus strengthening the democratic process;
13     (3) the contributions of precinct committee persons are instrumental
14 in influencing election outcomes and ensuring that community voices are
15 heard and represented;
16     (4) increasing awareness and participation in this vital role is essential
17 for maintaining robust democratic processes and ensuring that
18 communities are well represented and actively engaged; and
19     (5) many precinct committee persons gain the skills to become
20 candidates for various public offices, cultivating long-term civic leaders
21 and public servants.
22     (b) In recognition of these contributions, the first Tuesday in May of
23 each year is hereby designated as precinct committee person awareness
24 day.
25     (c) The purpose of this designation is to honor those who serve as
26 precinct committee persons, encourage citizen participation in this
27 important grassroots position and promote awareness of the role that
28 precinct committee persons play in strengthening local political
29 foundations and supporting the vibrant nature of our democratic society.
30     Sec. 2. State agencies, local governments, educational institutions and
31 civic organizations are encouraged to observe precinct committee person
32 awareness day with appropriate activities and programs that promote civic
33 engagement and public understanding of the duties and significance of
34 precinct committee persons.
35     Sec. 3. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its

1 publication in the statute book.
