               HOUSE CONCURRENT
                RESOLUTION No. 2
1    A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION urging the Indiana
2 Department of Transportation to rename that portion of U.S.
3 Highway 30 from mile marker 15 to mile marker 16 the
4 "Sergeant William Gilbert Paterson Memorial Mile".
5   Whereas, Sergeant William Gilbert Paterson was tragically
6 killed on January 25, 1994, in a two-vehicle accident during a
7 high-speed pursuit of a stolen vehicle as it entered into Lake
8 County from Porter County;
9   Whereas, Sergeant William Gilbert Paterson was born on
10 January 12, 1950, in Gary, Indiana, and he graduated from
11 Hobart High School in 1968, attending Indiana University
12 Northwest for three years afterwards;
13  Whereas, Sergeant Paterson was employed by the Lake
14 County Sheriff's Department for 18 years;
15  Whereas, Along with serving as a police officer, Sergeant
16 Paterson was a member of the United States Air Force Reserve
17 and the Lake Michigan Coast Guard Reserve, and he served in
18 Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm as a
19 member of the Unit PSU 303;
20   Whereas, Sergeant Paterson was thoroughly involved in his
21 community, where he attended Southlake Church of the
22 Nazarene and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police
23 Chris Anton Lodge No. 125, the Lake County Police
24 Association Local #72, the Izaak Walton League, Miller
25 Chapter, the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, and the
26 Experimental Aircraft Association;

1  Whereas, Sergeant Paterson is survived by his wife, son, two
2 daughters, two stepsons, his mother, and his brother; and
3   Whereas, Sergeant Paterson courageously made the ultimate
4 sacrifice in the line of duty, giving his life while selflessly
5 protecting his community: Therefore,
6Be it resolved by the House of Representatives
7of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana,
8the Senate concurring:
9    SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly urges the
10 Indiana Department of Transportation to rename that portion of
11 U.S. Highway 30 from mile marker 15 to mile marker 16 the
12 "Sergeant William Gilbert Paterson Memorial Mile".
13    SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of
14 Representatives shall transmit copies of this resolution to the
15 Commissioner of the Indiana Department of Transportation.

which was referred House Concurrent Resolution 2, has had the same
