R. 6184 IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES November 20, 2025 Ms. Elfreth (for herself, Mr. Begich , Ms. Bonamici , Ms. Brownley , Ms. Castor of Florida , Ms. Dean of Pennsylvania , Mrs. Kiggans of Virginia , Ms. Norton , Mr. Magaziner , and Mr. Whitesides ) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the Committee on Natural Resources , and in addition to the Committee on Science, Space, and Technology , for a period to be subsequently determined by the Speaker, in each case for consideration of such provisions as fall within the jurisdiction of the committee concerned A BILLTo ensure the uninterrupted storage of data sets of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and for other purposes.1.Short titleThis Act may cited as the NOAA Data Preservation Act .2.Uninterrupted storage of data sets of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration(a)In generalThe Secretary of Commerce may not cancel a contract with a cloud service provider for the storage of a data set of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration unless the Secretary satisfies the conditions described in subsection (b).(b)Conditions describedThe conditions described in this subsection are the following:(1)Development of a plan for the uninterrupted storage of the data set described in subsection (a) that includes transition to a cloud service provider other than a cloud service provider referred to in such subsection of such data set, and any associated reporting systems.(2)Collaboration with the Administrator of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to ensure the uninterrupted protection of such data set.(c)Cloud service provider definedIn this section, the term cloud service provider has the meaning given the term in section 2200 of the Homeland Security Act of 2002 ( 6 U.S.C. 650 ).
