I 119th CONGRESS 1st Session H. R. 5080 IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES September 2, 2025 Mr. Steube (for himself and Mr. Moore of Alabama ) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the Committee on Armed Services A BILL
To redesignate the Department of Defense the Department of War.
1.
Short title
This Act may be cited as the Department of War Restoration Act of 2025 .
2.
Redesignation of department of defense as department of war
(a)
Department of war
The Department of Defense is hereby redesignated the Department of War.
(b)
Secretary of war
The head of the Department of War, as redesignated by subsection (a), is the Secretary of War.
(c)
References
Any reference to the Department of Defense or the Secretary of Defense in any law, rule regulation, certificate, directive, instruction, or other offi-cial paper in force on the date of enactment of this Act shall be considered to refer and apply to the Department of War and the Secretary of War, respectively.
