hb2295/introduced.txtSession of 2025HOUSE BILL No. 2295By Committee on EducationRequested by Representative Featherston on behalf of Representative Meyer2-51 AN ACT concerning education; relating to the state board of education;2 providing for reimbursements to local school boards for reduced price3 school meals; prohibiting local school boards from collecting money4 for such meals; amending K.S.A. 72-17,137 and repealing the existing5 section.67 Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Kansas:8 Section 1. K.S.A. 72-17,137 is hereby amended to read as follows:9 72-17,137. (a) Each board shall be entitled to receive, from appropriations10 from the state general fund, six cents (6¢) $.06 for each type-A meal11 served under an approved school lunch program during each school year12 commencing with the 1978-79 school year.13 (b) Commencing in the 2025-2026 school year:14 (1) Each board shall be entitled to receive, from appropriations from15 the state general fund, $.40 for each meal served under an approved16 reduced price school meals program being provided in accordance with17 42 U.S.C. 1759(a); and18 (2) no board shall collect $.40 for such reduced price school meals19 from students participating in the reduced price school meals program.20 (c) For the purpose of this section every type-A lunch served shall be21 counted equally. If the total amount of entitlements of all boards in any22 school year is more than the amount appropriated for payment thereof,23 then the entire amount appropriated therefor shall be prorated among all24 boards in proportion to the amount each board is entitled to receive under25 this act.26 (b)(d) Moneys received by a board from appropriations from the state27 general fund under the provisions of this section shall not be used for the28 purchase of identifiable imported meats. As used in this subsection,29 "identifiable imported meats" shall mean means meats which are labeled30 as being imported.31 Sec. 2. K.S.A. 72-17,137 is hereby repealed.32 Sec. 3. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its33 publication in the statute book.
